Advanced Rooftop Controls (ARC)
Advanced Rooftop Controls (ARC) is a retrofit that adds variable frequency drives, economizers and an energy management system to existing packaged rooftop HVAC units. Our ARC projects have averaged 10 to 15 percent energy savings for Arizona schools, retail and commercial buildings in cities like Phoenix and Tucson, and the work is typically funded in part by SRP, APS or TEP.
Lower Energy Costs. Extended Equipment Life.
The system
What ARC Includes
ARC combines three proven upgrades into one smart system:
1)Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
Soft-start blower motors→lower amp draw→longer motor life.
2)Economizers (“Free Cooling”)
Uses outside air when conditions allow→compressors run less→lower energy costs.
3)Energy Management System (EMS)
Controls schedules, setbacks, and economizers automatically.
Simple to use. Fully optimized.

Who qualifies for ARC?
ARC fits Arizona buildings that rely on packaged rooftop HVAC units: schools, churches, offices, retail centers, self-storage, healthcare and light industrial sites in cities like Phoenix, Mesa, Chandler, Glendale and Tucson. The longer your units run each year, the more there is to save, which is why Arizona’s long cooling season makes ARC worth evaluating.
Eligibility depends on unit size, age, condition and existing controls, plus the rules of your utility’s program. Units in serviceable condition are usually good candidates; units near the end of their life may be better replaced. Our free inventory sorts that out unit by unit, so you only pay for upgrades that make sense.

You save on your power bill and your equipment.
ARC reduces:
- Energy consumption
- Compressor runtime
- Motor stress
- Peak demand
Utility programs
Which utilities support advanced rooftop controls?
ARC is evaluated through each utility’s business efficiency program. Which one applies depends on who supplies your meter: SRP or APS in the Phoenix metro area, TEP in Tucson. We confirm current measure eligibility before quoting incentives.
e2o Energy Group is a registered Trade Ally with all three programs. Registration is not an endorsement; each utility approves and verifies every project. See real results in our case studies, including Great Hearts.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
- What is Advanced Rooftop Controls (ARC)?
- ARC is a retrofit package for existing packaged rooftop HVAC units. It adds a variable frequency drive to the supply fan, an economizer that uses outside air when conditions allow, and an energy management system that controls schedules and setbacks. Together they cut runtime and energy use without replacing the unit.
- How much energy does ARC save?
- Our ARC projects have provided average energy savings of 10 to 15 percent across schools, retail and other commercial buildings. Actual savings depend on your units, operating hours and how the building is used. We calculate projected savings for your specific equipment with the utility before you commit to anything.
- Which buildings qualify for ARC?
- Buildings with packaged rooftop HVAC units are the usual candidates, including schools, churches, offices, retail, self-storage and light industrial sites. Unit size, age, condition and existing controls all affect eligibility. Our free HVAC inventory records make, model, serial numbers, motor data and economizer status to confirm which units qualify.
- Is ARC paid for by the utility?
- ARC is typically utility-funded in part through SRP Business Solutions, APS Solutions for Business or TEP Commercial Energy Solutions, depending on who serves your building. The incentive amount depends on calculated savings and current program rules. Your proposal shows the incentive and your net cost before you decide.
- Will installation disrupt my building?
- Installation is designed to keep your building open and operating. e2o Mechanical schedules work around your hours, and units are upgraded one at a time so the rest of the system keeps running. We coordinate access, safety and timing with your facility team before work starts, and include system training at the end.
- Can ARC be added to older rooftop units?
- Often, yes, if the unit is in serviceable condition. ARC is a retrofit, so it can extend the useful life of equipment you already own. During the inventory we flag units that are near the end of their life, so you can decide whether to upgrade, replace or plan for replacement later.
- What does ARC do for equipment life?
- ARC reduces stress on your equipment. Variable frequency drives soft-start blower motors and lower amp draw, and economizers let compressors run less when outside air can do the work. Less runtime and fewer hard starts mean less wear, which is why we describe ARC as saving on your power bill and your equipment.
- How do I start an ARC project?
- Book a no-cost Utility Incentive Evaluation online or call 602-512-9060. We start with a free HVAC inventory, submit the data to your utility to calculate savings and incentives, then present a proposal with scope, savings, incentive and net cost. If you approve, we reserve the incentive funds and schedule installation.
